MICHAEL WANG Interview

MICHAEL WANG
DALIAN, CHINA
“I FEEL LONELY IN THE U.S. BECAUSE I AM THE KIND OF SHY PERSON. BUT SOMETIMES I LIKE THIS LONELINESS.”

Michael came to the United States in August 2014. First, he went to Pasadena City College, then transferred to LMU as a junior. Before studying in the United States, he studied in Singapore for a year. However, he did not like the school he went to and the environment there, so he came to the state on the advice of his parents. He described himself as a bad student before, he did not like studying and would rather spend time hanging out with friends. It was not until he studied at Pasadena City College that he realized the importance of education. He started chasing his studies, so he didn't go home for four years. He took as many classes were needed to transfer out to a university, and he studied the entire winter and summer breaks. Finally, he got straight A’s and came to LMU as a screenwriting major student. The four years he stayed in America, he missed his parents the most, and he called them or facetime once a week to share his experience. Although it took him a while to get on the right track, he did not regret coming to the United States because he believed people could learn from challenges, at least he learned a lot. As he grows older, he expressed that his motivation is to do what he needs to do, to study hard and make his parents proud.
He currently lives with two American students from LMU and it is one of his great experience in the United States. Both of his roommates are interested in Chinese culture, so Michael enjoys living with them. Michael does meal prep every morning. Since he does not know how to cook Chinese food, he mainly cooks American food, such as broccoli, spinach, chicken breast, stripes, Simon and so on.
